The direct consequence of most water pump damages is coolant leakage, which is mostly caused by the aging of the water pump sealing ring; In addition, the engine combination belt being too tight can also cause premature wear of the water pump; If the antifreeze is not replaced for a long time, internal corrosion will eventually cause damage to the water pump; The water pump has reached its service life and is not replaced for a long time.
Below are several common phenomena of car water pump failure:
Due to the fact that the car water pump is connected to the belt to extract cold water from the water tank, if the rotational resistance of the water pump is affected, it will directly affect the engine speed and result in unstable vehicle speed. This is mainly manifested as unstable speed fluctuations after starting the car. If the resistance is very high, it may even cause stalling, which often occurs in winter.
1. Leakage of water pump
The most common malfunction of most car water pumps is leakage. The main reason for leakage is that the sealing is not very in place, allowing coolant to seep into the bearings of the water pump, thereby flushing the lubricant on the bearings and causing bearing damage. This type of leakage belongs to internal leakage. External leakage is also the main cause of water pump damage, including aging of engine seals and gaskets due to long-term use, internal leakage of heaters, and leakage of oil coolers.
2. Noise phenomenon occurs
If there is obvious noise in the car water pump, it indicates that the interior of the water pump is starting to be damaged. The main reason for causing noise is that the bearings start to damage or the impeller starts to loosen and gradually detach from the shaft during rotation, resulting in noise.
A simple method to determine if the car water pump is broken:
1. Start the vehicle and check for warm air when the water temperature rises.
2. Start the vehicle, and after the water temperature reaches the opening temperature of the thermostat, touch the upper and lower water pipes of the water tank to see if the temperature is all hot.
3. It is to observe the flow of liquid in the water tank during refueling. When refueling, water will flow, indicating that the water pump is not a problem.
4. Check the appearance of the water pump to see if there is any leakage, and listen for any abnormal noise that the water pump does not have.
The main phenomena are: high engine water temperature, lack of heating, radiator fan constantly running or not running (depending on the vehicle's control method).
3.Water temperature alarm
The function of the water pump is to circulate coolant from the engine to the radiator. If the water pump leaks, it will cause insufficient coolant and high engine temperature; If the water pump is not working properly, the coolant cannot flow in the engine for heat exchange, and the engine heat cannot be discharged, it will cause the engine temperature to rise. If the engine temperature is too high, it will decrease the lubricating ability of the oil, leading to increased wear and tear of the components. Even higher temperatures can cause serious faults such as engine cylinder pulling or tile burning, ultimately leading to engine failure.
